History Tree

Materials: Glass smalti, steel

An 8 metre stainless steel tree, depicts the life cycle of a tree from sapling, bud to flower. It’s base contains autumnal coloured translucent glass smalti, which is back lit at night.  17 autumnal smalti and steel leaves are blown across the front of the building.

The shadow of the tree, set into the paving, sees the addition of over 40 etched leaves containing stories, recipes and historical facts gathered during workshops across Kent.  A collaboration with Michael Condron
