Date: Jul 12, 2016 Gift of Life : River of Life - A 20ft mosaic to help promote organ donation I'll be in residence at the hospital this week to talk about the mosaic alongside experts from the organ donation team. Very pleased to have been awarded this commission for the hospital's main entrance corridor. Based on the Essex coastline with it's rivers and estuaries, the mosaic will contain hundreds of plates, buttons and beach glass donated from people all over Colchester. The coastline was chosen as symbolic of the river of life, the ebb and flow of the tide, like breathing is about giving and receiving. Which is exactly what organ donation is - and much of my work. Embedded in the mosaic will also be a specially commissioned poem by Martin Newell. This is inspired by a book containing thankyou letters from donor recipients to donor families. The work will be completed in the autumn. For more info see the Colchester Hospital website. Watch this space......
